Switching to Xero: What to Expect

Moving your business onto Xero is one of the best decisions you can make for your bookkeeping — but the thought of switching can feel daunting. Here's what to actually expect.
Why Xero?
Xero is cloud-based accounting software, which means your numbers live securely online and update in real time. Bank feeds bring your transactions in automatically, invoicing is quick, and you (and your bookkeeper) can see the same up-to-date picture from anywhere.
Setting it up properly
The secret to a smooth Xero experience is a clean setup: the right chart of accounts, bank feeds connected, and your GST or VAT settings configured correctly for your country. Get this right at the start and you avoid a world of cleanup later.
Moving your data across
If you're coming from spreadsheets or another system, your historical data can be migrated so you don't lose your history. We handle this carefully so your opening balances are correct from day one.
How long does it take?
For most small businesses, a clean setup and migration takes a few days to a couple of weeks depending on complexity. After that, you barely notice it — the software just quietly does its job in the background.
